Proposed Changes to Your Portfolio:

In Brief...

During July, the S&P 500 reached positive returns Year to Date for the first time since its historic fall in March. The S&P 500 is the index tracking the 500 largest US companies and many investors consider this to represent a benchmark for the overall market. It is predominantly investor sentiment that continues to drive the market up as we continue through to the second half of 2020.

On one hand, many investors believe (or are hoping) that a vaccine will become readily available, the stimulus provided by central banks is sufficient to protect the economy from long-term damage and  there will be a bounce back in economic productivity to pre-Covid levels. On the other, a vaccine becoming swiftly accessible isn’t likely for another 12 months and the commonly used ‘fear-index’ remains around 40% above its long-term average. The fear-index (CBOE’s VIX) measures market's expectation of 30-day forward-looking volatility, this demonstrates that there are still high levels of uncertainty and uneasiness surrounding the future of the global economy.
