Property funds were originally suspended as lockdown restrictions prevented the physical valuations of the properties making up each fund. Easing lockdowns mean it is likely these valuations will be able to take place over the next few weeks, thus the suspension is expected to be lifted soon.
Collaboration between property funds and the FCA is underway to prevent a run on ‘the first to open’ and stabilise the sector after the suspension is lifted. Property remains an important part of Reeves long-term strategy and provides valuable diversification, we are not looking to drastically change our exposure to property, even when the suspensions are lifted.
Its important to remember that this suspension was not a result of a weak property sector or sector outlook, more so a unique situation caused by the COVID – 19 pandemic.
